T.G.I.F.

Source: residentadvisor.net

Thank God It's Friday, but for the last time this year!! It's New Year's Eve tomorrow, so even more parties are on everywhere, but I definitely recommend the following one: In about an hour I'm leaving to Berlin with a ticket for tomorrow's event at the club Tresor.  One of the oldest clubs in Berlin  invites for a massive NYE-party where  Octave One(!!) are playing live and a whole bunch of other DJs, as for example the Swede Cari Lekebusch, gonna spin the tables. Can't wait to see all my friends coming to Berlin from everywhere in the world and start the new year with a massive reunion!

In this spirit: Namaste and bye 2011, BRING ON 2012!!!

Party tip: Dirty Dörte - ELECTRO DÖRTE

Source: deinhoteleuropa.com

If you had enough Christmas and got bored at home, and you are in/around Aachen (Germany), then come to Hotel Europa tonight!!! My friend Jakob P. is calling for another "ELECTRO DÖRTE ihr Jakob sein Hund", this time hosting not Karsten S., but therefor me, Sara S.! So don't miss my official DJ-debut! ;)
Those who missed my inofficial debut can listen to it now; I uploaded the set to my SoundCloud-page. Enjoy listening and hope to see you tonight!

T.G.I.C.

There was no T.G.I.F.-post past Friday, but therefor

Thank God It's Christmas today - finally!!! Couldn't wait for these last days to pass! As every year the pre-Christmas time is just dominated even more than usually by mad crowds of people (as I had to experience just too well yesterday in Antwerp (Belgium)), stress, panic, money - Christmas-business BOOM BOOM. And all this for what?! Maybe to realize on Christmas Eve that our partner still doesn't know our taste, or maybe that we don't like our family, or maybe that we actually are lonely, or maybe to finally admit that presents doesn't make us (permanently) happy?! So why are we giving presents to this and this person? Is it, cause we wanna thank him/her for something and give him/her pleasure, or is the reason just some "Christmas-equals-presents"-pressure that we human beings implanted in our heads?
For some the following might sound naive or cheesy, but represents for me the truth: Be honest, people, and if you really want to give pleasure, then try to present each other the most precious thing: LOVE.

In this spirit: Namaste and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! XOX

Exhibition at Hexagone

Source: galerie-hexagone.de

In the previous T.G.I.F.-post I wrote about the vernissage I was invited to. I managed to stop by to have a look at the art works and had a few interesting conversations with people from the art scene. The Gallery Hexagone is located at Schützenstraße 16, in Aachen (Germany), and since last Friday its annual Christmas exhibition is on. This year’s exposition focuses especially on their Asian artists whereat all kind of styles and genre are present, e.g. pop art, (abstract) oil paintings, little installations (#7), photography (#3) or paintings that remind strongly on Dali's surrealism (#6). Amongst others oeuvres from Ren Rong(#2), Luoke Chen, Yukio Imamura, Leng Hong and Zhu Tianmeng are exhibited, but also Joe Stefanelli’s (#5) and Sven Inge’s (#7) works are presented again, as well as some contemporary artists exposing for the first time at Hexagone. To latter group belongs also Edith Suchodrew (foto #1), a very friendly lady from Riga, Lattvia, who I had the honor to talk with. Suchodrew studied at the art school, as well as the art academy in Riga where she graduated in the subject “Graphic / Diploma, Fine Arts”. She lives and works in Aachen right now, but has since over 35 years exhibitions all over the world and is therefore no innominate artist in the international art scene. Her works are complex and varied, and range from book art over etching, lithography, water colours, graphic, drawings, xylography, oil, silk and porcelain painting to computer graphics and animation. At Hexagone now she is represented with a sequence of small graphical shots which she processed on the computer. The five little pieces, which can be seen on photo #1, represent kind of dreamy, if not even psychedelic elements/snap-shots, which leaves the spectator itself the freedom of interpretation, a typical characteristic trait of Suchodrew’s works. For me personally Suchodrew’s work belongs definitely to my favourite pieces from all exhibited oeuvres, which is also why I got into conversation with her.

The exhibition at Hexagone is on since 16th December and can be visited till 11th January 2012.

T.G.I.F.

No post the whole week, but I'm still alive!
Thank God It's Friday finally, but definitely no time to repose!!!

Source: gelerie-hexagone.de
At the Gallery Hexagone in Aachen (Germany) a new exhibition is launched tonight. The works of about 30 mostly Asian artists are going to be on exhibition and apparently most of the artists attend tonight’s opening in person.  Gerd-Dieter Schopp, the owner of the gallery, invited me to the vernissage tonight, which starts at 7 pm. If I can make it, I'll probably pop in and post about it then soon here.

Another tip for tonight if you're in or around Aachen (Germany): A friend of mine hosts regularly small parties at a location called "Kopfsülz" (Südstraße, Aachen). Due to the size of the location those evenings are always kept in a more intimate circle and the guests are always invited only by an email. However I invite you herewith, so if you're around, pass by, cause I will be looking after the music together with a friend, planning to start 9pm-ish!;)

SOUNDWAVE in my opinion is probably one, if not the best festival in the world! But as it's still a while till summer, Soundcrash hosts already tomorrow night the Soundwave Reunion-party at Koko in London (UK). For only £5-10 you can see many top-class musicians and DJs, amongst others Anchorsong (!!) will look after the summer-vibes.

In this spirit: Namaste and bring on that weekend!!!

Time passes like crazy, but
Source: eupen.be
Thank God It's Friday!!!
If you read my posts recently, it wasn't difficult to guess that I'm in Belgium right now, so that my weekend-recommendation also lights on a small Belgian town this time. I would have never thought that I would ever "recommend" an "event" in Eupen, a little town lying in East Belgium in the tri-border region close to Germany and the Netherlands, but this weekend the town's annual Christmas market is taking place and we are participating again - fourth year in a row. As every year we are selling a variety of home-baked Hungarian pastries. However this year we have one more merchandise on offer: The bags of my very first Collection are finished and for the first time on sale. More info about the bags will follow soon here!

In this spirit: Namaste and bon appétit!!!

"The Exchange"

Source: profile.ak.fbcdn.net

Last weekend the Hotel "The Exchange" was opened up in Amsterdam. This doesn't sound very special at first, but what makes this hotel so interesting to post about is its creative concept. The interior decoration was developed in collaboration with the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI), whereby each room was "dressed up like models" by eight graduated and last-year students of the AMFI - the concept: architecture meets fashion. All 61 rooms have a different outfit/design for which even special fabrics were developed in collaboration with the Textile Museum in Tilburg. The hotel is located on Damrak; those of you, who are a bit familiar with Amsterdam's streets, know it is the long pedestrian area that extends from the central station till the Dam square and which is a big construction site since a while now. Those works are part of the urban-renewable project "Red carpet" to give the Danmark a "more diverse and fashionable look", and also "The Exchange" belongs to this project. It should be added that the hotel consists of three historical buildings, of which the oldest dates back to the 17th century, and includes also the contemporary department store "Options!", as well as the restaurant "Stock". In "Options!" you can find on 230 m² all kind of contemporary design products, from Dutch ceramics, over Peruvian Alpaka-wool, to hand printed notebooks from Berlin. "Stock" on the other hand serves healthy food with the aim of using only locally grown fruits and vegetables. This merging of hotel ("The Exchange"), store ("Options!") and restaurant ("Stock") is one more realization of the contemporary idea of "combining concepts", whereby Amsterdam hits the zeitgeist once again.

Vive la Belgique!

Source: cartacapital.com.br

About a week ago, on 30th November, it was announced that the government crisis in Belgium is over. Since April 2010 the country is without elected government, at the time when the former governing coalition broke up due to a dispute between the Flemings and the Walloons. Now, after 535 days under a provisional government's direction, the quarrelled parties seem to have agreed on a coalition between the Socialists, Christian Democrats and Liberals, and the social democrat Elio di Rupo (see photo) is said to become the new Prime Minister of this "triple-coalition". Lot of work is waiting for di Rupo and his people, that's for sure, as during this Euro-crisis Belgium became after Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal one more problem child of the EU and stands between the highly indebted EU-countries. The new coalition now plans to save 11.3 billion Euros by the end of 2012, which corresponds to one-tenth of Belgium's budget. How does the new government under di Ripo's direction want to achieve this? Their answer: With special taxes on higher incomes, taxes on share transactions, cut of the unemployment benefit and a higher age for early retirement. These reforms of course met with opposition straight away.
Source: spiegel.de
Last Friday now, 2nd December, only seven days after these announcements, between 70 000 and 80 000 people followed the call of the labour unions and went on the streets in Brussels to protest against the new government and its reforms; absolutely comprehensible considering the fact that a Belgian citizen pays already more taxes and higher energy costs compared for example to its neighbouring countries Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. The Belgian population fears that those reforms are just the beginning, but will result in much more severe changes and consequences. It is a debatable point if this new coalition is really sustainable or if it is just some strategical move and hectic reaction on the fact that end of last month the rating agency “Standard & Poor's” (S&P) downgraded Belgium's credit rating with even "negative outlook". Anyway, regardless of whether this coalition persists or breaks up again, the Belgian middle class will be the victim and will have to be liable for the defects of the politicians, financiers and speculators - as always.

Thank God It's Friiiiday and if you're in or around Berlin, you should definitely go to Berghain and its Panorama Bar tonight!
The club presents under "Leisure System 14" six top-class DJs, including the British producer and Live-act Nathan Fake, playing some Kraut-Emo-Techno, and DJ Funk (!!), bringing some Chicago ghetto house to Berghain.
The Panorama Bar hosts as every first Friday of the month a Perlon-party under the slogan "...get perlonized" with Sammy Dee and Zip. For those who don't know: Perlon is a German label found in Frankfurt, but now based in Berlin. For tonight Sammy Dee and Zip invited the master of holographic techno,
Matt John (!!), and the French Housefunk-team Copacabannark (=Cabanne+Ark).

In this spirit: Namaste and rave badly!!!
